Gifted & Talented Provision
At Oulder Hill School we believe that all students should be provided with a challenging and personalised education designed to help them achieve their highest possible standards. This personalisation includes our most able students. We aim to give all of our Gifted and Talented students the opportunity to reach their potential and in doing so, create benefits for other pupils, the school and community.
Gifted and Talented students are identified through the results of external and internal tests or through teacher recommendation based on the national criteria for that subject. We use the term ‘gifted’ to include students who have exceptional academic abilities and ‘talented’ to include students who are accomplished in a particular performance skill.
Each faculty has a member of staff who is part of a working group which champions excellent provision, manages nominations and shares ideas for how to further challenge and support Gifted and Talented students in each subject. All faculties are responsible for meeting the needs of the gifted and talented provision of students in their subject areas. They achieve this through carefully planned enrichment and extension activities in lessons and a variety of extra-curricular opportunities.
An Advanced Skills Teacher leads on our Gifted and Talented programme along with the Deputy and Assistant Headteachers responsible for Teaching and Learning. They track and monitor the progress of students and provide additional feedback to parents on written reports at Key Stage 4.
Work in the classroom is supplemented by the opportunity for students to extend their understanding further by participating in enrichment sessions and trips run by faculties and the G&T coordinator. These opportunities offered are diverse and include:
- team work,
- critical thinking
- research projects
We set out to develop students’ skills to be able to work independently to stretch and develop their understanding through wider reading and study.
Gifted & Talented GCSE Results (2012-2013)
We are very proud of the achievements of all of our G&T students who received their GCSE results in the summer. They achieved grades A* and A in 29 different subjects at GCSE. This performance reflects the hard work and commitment shown by our students and their teachers alongside the continued support of parents.
